Sydney Royal Highlights

Supreme Champion animal of Sydney Royal Show selected by judge Garry Noller was young cow Eltham Willow, a homebred cow exhibited by Austin Steer from Trangie NSW.  This cow had earlier taken out Senior Champion Female with Reserve Champion Female going to Birubi Valentine Rose, a Wulfs Guardian daughter.  Junior Champion Female was Willandra Your Kids Dream exhibited by the Gotch family from Mudgee NSW.  Reserve Junior Champion went to Kensal Black Pearl Z09.

 

Senior and Grand Champion Bull was Birubi Mr Vegemite Y323 exhibited by Annette and Michael Tynan, and Reserve was half brother Birubi Mr Vegemite Y324.  Junior Champion Bull was Mimosa Yukon, jointly owned by John Rodd, Murray Armstrong and Warren Scifleet.  Reserve went to Rosehill Z411 exhibited by John and Rosemarie McCarthy from Clifton QLD.

 

Sydney Interbreed

Both the Champiion Limousin Female and the Champion Limousin Bull stood in the front line (top four) in the Interbreed judging.  When judged as a pair in the Horden Trophy they also made the front line in an impressive showing for the breed.

 

Stan Hill Trophy Victory

Limousin was successful in the prestigious Stan Hill Trophy competition for teams of three carcasses.  The three steers were bred by Terry and Bev Denniss of the Jordanspring Limousin Stud at Mudgee, and exhibited by St Stainislaus College from Bathurst.


The team scored 266 points from a total of 300 points to head off the Charolais team by 3.5 points with the Angus team in third place.  The team included the Champion heavyweight Schools Steer which scored 89.5 points.  Second in this class was a Tobias Limousin bred Steer exhibited by Elderslie High School with 88 points and third was a Timor Limousin bred steer exhibited by St Lawrence's Central School from Coonabarabran NSW with 87.5 points in a clean sweep for Limousin.  This steer also stood as Reserve Champion Schools Heavyweight Steer on the hoof.

In the Open Heavyweight Carcass classes a steer bred by the Flemington Limousin Stud and exhibited by Knox and Robson placed second and Reserve Champion Heavyweight Carcass with 91.5 points.  Third in that class was another Tobias Limousin steer exhibited by M Bailly.

Sydney Royal Steer Prices

Sale prices for Limousin steers sold at auction after the judging were impressive. Second top priced steer was a Limousin at 705 c/kg ($3,003) sold to Auburn Meadows Meats of prestigious Sydney suburb Rose Bay.

The average price paid for 24 Limousin steers was 284 c/kg, second only to four Galloway steers at 326 c/kg (Lightweights generally make higher prices per kilo than heavyweights.)

Junior Heifer Show
Kensal Black Pearl Z09 paraded by 13-year-old Nathan O'Sullivan of Culcairn was the Champion Heifer in the 115 head All Breeds Junior Heifer Show at Sydney Royal.  Well done Nathan and Kensal Limousins.


Black Bullseye Sale
The much spoken about 12-month-old heifer Kensal Black Pearl Z09 topped the Black Bullseye Sale at Sydney Royal selling for $7,500 to Premier Limousin Stud.  Second top price was Birubi Yonetta, a 17 month old Vegemite Kid daughter, which sold for $5,000 to the Ballina Limousin Stud.  Five of the six female lots offered sold for an average of $4,300.

Top priced bull was Birubi Mr Vegemite Y324, which sold for $4,500 to Currandooley Pastoral Co.  Two of the Three bulls offered sold for an average of $4,125.  The Kensal Thunder Down Under/ Kensal Black Pearl N231 embryo lots sold for $600 each for a total of $2,400 to the Eltham Limousin Stud.

 

West Moreton Limousin Sale

Thirty lots topped at $3,500 and averaged $1,897 in the West Moreton Limousin Sale at Laidley in QLD. 

In the breakdown, seven bulls averaged $2,342 and sold to $3,500; 10 cows with calves averaged $2,020, top $3,000; nine cows averaged $2,015, top $2,500 while four heifers averaged $1,125, top $1,400.

 

Sale topper was the 13-month-old Tarampa Downs Zammo, a French pure son of Tarampa Downs Warrior sold by David and Leonie Washband, Tarampa Downs, Tarampa to the Dowrick family, Charleville.

 

The Washbands sold five, including two in calf cows wich averaged $2,200 and two heifers which averaged $2,050.

 

Largest vendors in the sale were local breeders Jock and Laurel taylor, Glencoe, Laidley who cleared 11 lots including seven cow and calf units that averaged $1,985, three heifers averaged $900 and a single bull sold for $2,000.

 

Red Hill (Vic) All Breeds Show
Limousins almost had a "clean sweep" at the Red Hill All Breeds Show (about 80 cattle) last Saturday Joe Brothers' 17month's old bull Lochton Premier Y77 was Supreme Beef Animal, and Marie and Bob Fels' 7 year old cow Ingleside Teresa of Avila was Champion Female, while Peter Chew's 23 month old bull Bilati Yusuf was Senior Champion Bull.

 

Tamworth Sale Toppers

Phil and Barbara Bricknell of Currabubula topped the cow sale at Tamworth recently.  They sold two cull cows weighing 695kg for 160 c/kg or $1,112.  They also sold a Limousin heifer weighing 515kg for 175 c/kg or $901, which was very good money.
