From the Australian Beef Industry Foundation Christmas Message 24/12/04

For the Foundation, 2004 has been a busy and exciting year with the establishment of six new scholarships with Rural Press, Champion Liquid Feeds and the University of New England.  These scholarships are designed to assist undergraduate students to pursue careers in the Australian Beef Industry.  Career development has been a major priority and will continue as the Foundation works towards introducing a Careers Database that will assist our youth in identifying career opportunities in the beef industry.  The Traineeship & Apprenticeship Programs that are currently in place will be another milestone in providing "hands on" experience to the trainee or apprentice and will be the foundation for a life long career.

The Foundation welcomed two new Directors, Mr Mo Pedersen and Ms Tanya Guaran who were elected at this year's AGM.  Mo is an agricultural teacher on the Atherton Tablelands, having his own Limousin and Brahman Stud and Tanya is a joint manager at Millwood Murray Grey Stud.  Both  Mo and Tanya have contributed greatly throughout the year encouraging and supporting students who have an interest in the beef industry.

Again this year we have had two successful fund raising events.  At the Sydney Royal Champion Liquid Feeds All Breeds Dinner we raised $7,345 and the Melbourne All Breeds Dinner Auction raised $12,895.  We will be having another All Breeds Dinner Auction in conjunction with the Royal Sydney Show on the 28th March 2005 at the Novotel Hotel.  All details can be accessed through our website at www.beeffoundation.com.au.  But remember to book early as tickets are selling quickly!

Matthew Browne of the Scotchmans Hill Limousin Stud reported an on farm sale of some commercial Limousin sold last month to a commercial breeder who had bought Scotchmans Hill bulls previously.

Four 13mth old heifers for $1000 a head, and two commercial cows with calves at foot for $1500 all + GST were sold.  All were unregistered but were effectively pure Limousin.
