Newsletter
for the week ending 14 October 2005
I am writing this newsletter from Albany in Western
Australia.
The International Limousin Conference Pre Tour will
come to this beautiful town on the southwest corner of Australia via the famous
Karri forests around Manjimup.
Pre Conference Tour
participants will stay in the luxurious Esplanade Hotel overlooking the Southern
Ocean and visit the Palmdale Limousin herd twenty five kilometres to the east
of Albany. On the return trip to Perth, participants will visit the Narrogin
Agricultural College Limousin herd and also the Lysgorren Limousin stud before
travelling north of Perth to the Woronyne and White Lakes studs.
Overseas visitors
and Australian members from the eastern states should not miss this Pre Tour to
a spectacular part of Australia with some great Limousin cattle.
News has been a little slow getting from Perth Royal
to my desk. However, the good news is that as well as winning Champion Carcass,
a Limousin X Murray Grey steer exhibited by Murdoch University was the Grand
Champion Steer on the Hoof.
Murdoch
University also took out the Medium Weight Champion and Reserve Grand Champion
Carcase with a pure Limousin, which scored 97 points. That's just two points
behind the Grand Champion three-quarter Limousin Steer carcase which scored 99
points.
Continuing the run of carcase success, a Murray Grey
X Limousin Steer exhibited by Alan and
Janette Badior was the Grand Champion Carcase in the Singleton (NSW) Prime
Stock Competition. This steer was also Champion Unled Steer on the hoof. Other
successes in the competition were:
Reserve
Champion Unled Steer on the hoof - Limousin exhibited by Oliver Joliffe
Reserve
Champion Unled Carcase – Limousin exhibited by Oliver Joliffe
Reserve Champion Unled
Heifer on the hoof – Limousin X Angus
exhibited by Ross and Val Roe
Champion Pen of Two on hoof
and on the hook – Limousin X Angus exhibited by
Ross and Val Roe
Launceston
Royal Success
The
Limousin breed stood out once again at the Launceston Royal Show on 6th – 8th
October.
Anita and Allan Dixon's Lintwood Zareba Girl and
Lintwood Xotic who are full sisters which share the same birth-date and born 2
years apart took out the Junior Interbreed Female Award and the Senior
Interbreed Female Award. The younger sister was then named Supreme Female exhibit
and then went on to be named Supreme All Breeds Exhibit.
Lintwood stud also won the interbreed Sires Progeny
with the same two females which are sired by Double Agent and are out of
Lintwood Sunshine.
As well as the two females doing so well Lintwood
Stud also won in the breed classes: Junior and Grand Chamption Bull with,
Lintwood Zimmer Man sired by Lintwood Very Impressive and out of Donna Valley
Vivacious. They also picked up the Group of Three.
Another highlight for the Limousin breed was the
combined Junior Interbreed Group. The Junior Champion Bull, the Junior Champion
Female and Reserve Champion Female of the breed combine, the Limousins, won
this again. This makes it seven years in a row. It would have to be a record!
'As we are no getting younger, we have decided only
to keep a few' therefore, in principle, all cattle are for sale:
230 cows and first calf
heifers, with or without calf at foot
65 heifers, 1-2 years
50 heifers, 7-12 months
60 bulls 7-12 month
40 working age bulls, 18-30
months
This is no left over sale, but a genuine sale of top
quality French pure Limousins.

weights and docility score to be submitted for the Breedplan analysis is long
December.
It is also advisable to get your spring born calves
