A Victorian Limousin stud has gone one better at this year’s Royal Melbourne Show, by taking out the Supreme Exhibit with a May, 2013 cow and calf combination.
In 2015 and this year, Mandayen Jill J2402 took out the Grand Champion Limousin Female ribbon for Patrick Halloran’s Bush Park Limousin Stud, Kyneton.
She also took out this year’s Senior Champion Cow title.
This year, Mandayen Jill beat the Grand Champion Bull, Flemington Limousin stud, Mount View Orchards Batlow, Adelong, New South Wales’ Flemington Legend, a May 2015 drop animal, by Warrigal High Vision, out of Flemington Polled Pride H1.
“I didn’t expect her to go as well as she did, but I think she is a pretty fit cow, and a pretty fair cow, she’s the type of cow I am breeding,” Mr Halloran said.
“She’s got plenty of soundness, a pretty good, deep bodied cow, she’s got plenty of milk, she’s got a good heifer calf, coming on behind, and that’s the line of cows I want to progress.”
Judge Huw Evans, Quirindi, New South Wales, said Mandayen Jill had a “lot of muscle, a lot of depth, a big long barrel and plenty of softness too.
“She moves around really well, she has a good udder on her, a nice square udder, with a lot of milk and a tremendous heifer calf.”
The sixteen month old Flemington Legend took out the title of Grand Champion Bull.

Legend weighed 756 kilograms and recorded estimated breeding values (EBV’s) of 12 millimetres of rib fat, 8mm of rump fat and an estimated eye muscle area (EMA) of 125 square centimetres.
Mr Evans said Flemington Legend was “an outstanding bull”, with depth, muscle, softness and fertility.
