Bidding from all six Australian states bolstered the annual Maryvale Limousin Power in the Pedigree bull and female sale for the Vogt family on Tuesday at Kapunda.
In the breakdown, the Helmsman sale, interfaced with AuctionsPlus, resulted in 15 bulls selling from 30 offered, to a top of $6000 twice and average of $4150 – up $627 from the 2014 sale.
Four of six stud females averaged $3500, topping at $5000, and 10 of 12 semen lots sold to $180 a straw, or $9000 for the package of 50.
Maryvale Jigger J418, by TMF Arizona and from Palmdale Valda D8, was one of the $6000 sale toppers, selling to the Henschke family of Werrimull, Vic. Glenn Henschke said his new bull – which the family quickly christened Hershel – would be used over his Santa Gertrudis cow base to breed replacement heifers, while steers would be sold to Swan Hill as vealers. It was about the third bull the Henschkes had purchased from Maryvale.
“He has a smooth coat and is a nice square bull, and nice and quiet,” he said.
SR & HE Jaeschke, Waikerie, purchased the second $6000 bull, Maryvale Jinka J417, for use in their herd which last year produced the champion export steer, exhibited by Glental Feedlot, Mallala, at Melbourne Royal. Jinka J417, by TMF Arizona and from Maryvale Embrace 9291, was in the top five per cent of the breed for calving ease and the domestic index, the top 10pc for gestation length and the top 15pc for milk and 400-day growth.
Maryvale Jamieson’s Run J450, by Wulfs Xtractor, secured the $5250 second-top price selling to Colin and Helen Masters, Tanybryn Park, Clifton Hill, Vic.
James O’Brien, Bonian Limousins, Bungaree, Vic, and GR&KC Blackwell, Milang, each bought bulls at $5000.
A syndicate of three NSW Limousin studs secured the $5000 top-priced female, Maryvale Dawn Glow 8253D, by Mandayen Vision. The six-year-old female with a heifer calf at foot by RLF Yardley went to Rick Tindal, Ramornie Limousins, Holbrook; Ken and Kirsten Bisley, Amber Park Limousins, Wingham, and Tim Bayliss, Baylim Limousins, Armidale.
The three other females to sell, all heifers, made $3000 each to Morrisvale Limousins, Donnybrook, WA; Kevin Nettleton, Unison Limousins, Boyanup, WA; and David, Cheryl and Matt Jones, Badger View Limousins, Sheffield, Tas.
Two semen packages in black Canadian sire RPY Paynes Derby, each comprising 50 straws, sold at $180 a straw – totalling $9000 a package.
Badger View Limousins, in partnership with Richard Martin, Manoora Park Limousins, Ayrford, Vic, and Cheryl Hedger, Millenium Springs Limousins, Rosebud, Vic, secured one of these packages and a Queensland syndicate, including Bradley Frohloff, BJF Limousins, Upper Yarraman, and David Eagleson, Ulster 1 Limousins, Murgon, secured the other.
Volume buyers included AD&AJ Symes, Mildura, Vic, who took two bulls at $3500 and $3000.
The Mitchell family, Muloorina Station, via Maree, took two at $3000 and also purchased a further two after sale.
A total of five bulls sold after the sale.
Landmark stud stock’s Richard Miller, who conducted the Helmsman sale, said the depth of quality was evident in the sale draft, however there was a lack of volume buyers.
“The bulls that sold, sold well, we just lacked a couple of volume buyers,” he said. “The females and semen sold very well.”
