The Galpin family, Warrawindi, Penola, had a show to saviour this year, winning the Grand and Junior Champion Bull titles, as well as Grand, Senior and Junior Champion Female in the Limousin competition.

Led by Mason Galpin, the 18-month-old Warrawindi Lead Upgrade L11 – a son of Wulfs Upgrade 0500 – claimed the Junior Champion Bull category before being sashed Grand Champion Bull.

The 740 kilogram bull measured 8 millimetres on the rump, 5mm rib fat and had a 119 square centimetre eye muscle area.

Judge Richard Rowe, Marton, New Zealand, said it was the clear pick despite possibly not having as much muscle as other entrants.

“It’s a tremendous young bull in any breed,” he said.

“The cleanness of it stood out to the eye and also its length of body.

“When you get in behind it, it’s still very thick and walks really well, hocks out well and just parades beautifully. It’s a credit to the breeders.”

The Grand Champion bull was among several Warrawindi entries to garner high praise from Mr Rowe.
The 4.5-year-old Warrawindi Gypsy, a product of Wulfs Realtor 1503R and Warrawindi B587 and led by Bentley Galpin, won Grand Champion Female and Senior Champion Cow.

Junior Champion Female also went to the Galpin family, through Warrawindi Liv Forever – a maternal sister of the senior winner.

The Senior Champion bull was Blue Gum Hill Kaos, Blue Gum Hill Limousins, Echunga, a 730kg entry with 3mm rump, 3mm rib fat and 105sqcm EMA.

The 835kg Kamcheyenne Jugganaut, Kamcheyenne Limousins, One Tree Hill, was awarded Reserve.

The 2.5-year-old was the oldest bull entry and had measurements of 4mm rump, 3mm rib fat and 123sqcm EMA.

Blue Gum Hill Limousins also won Reserve Senior Champion Cow with the 7-year-old Foone Gayle E501, by Mandayen Cookie Monster Z348 and out of Ramornie Gayle A24.

Sasha Lanyon, Horizon, Nairne, impressed the judge with a pair of younger cattle.

She won Reserve Junior Champion Bull with Horizon Leo L3 – a 600kg Mandayen Guardian son measuring 5mm rump, 4mm rib fat and 118sqcm EMA – and Reserve Junior Champion Female with Maryvale Lassie.

With 10 exhibitors and 44 entries, there were cattle on show from across SA, including the Riverland, South East and Adelaide Hills.

Mr Rowe said he was impressed by the quality of the overall showing.
