Graneta Limousin and Lim-Flex stud principals Jon and Leny Gaffney couldn’t believe the success of their inaugural on-property bull sale, Glendale, last Friday after bulls sold to $16,000 and averaged $6526.

Despite being their first attempt at conducting a bull sale at home, buyers were prepared to travel from as far north as Alpha and south to the Hunter Valley region in New South Wales to compete strongly on the 38 mostly Limousin and some Lim-Flex (Limousin x Angus) bulls.

GDL auctioneer Peter Brazier said the strong demand forced a total clearance of the catalogue and the wide spread buying interest meant the prospects for the sale going forward look very favourable.

Interstate buyers Tony and Liz Sutcliffe, Toebelle Pastoral Company, Paterson, NSW wanted a foundation sire for their recently registered Toebelle stud and secured Graneta Hoo Doo Guru (P) at $16,000 for stud duties.

The current Beef 2015 grand champion bull was described by the Sutcliffes as a ‘well balanced, mountain of beef’ which was supported by excellent raw data figures of 154 EMA and 5.2 percent for IMF.

Mr Sutcliffe said he also liked the outstanding red son of Mandayen Easy Rider E1360 (P) for his overall softness and docility.

The $15,000 second top-selling bull, Graneta Jacuzzi J36 (P), a 25-month-old apricot son of the multiple trait leading sire in Mandayen Fortune F1606 (P) was bought by the Hack family, Rocklea, Alpha.

Graneta Jacuzzi was reserve junior champion at Beef 2015 and displayed excellent muscle expression and was ranked in the top 10 percent of the breed for 400 and 600 day growth.

Central Queensland beef producers Mark and Belinda Wilson, Banana Station, Banana had a view to breed ‘show winning steers’ after selecting five quality bulls for a $7200 average with excellent carcase attributes and plenty of muscle.

Mr Wilson paid up to $11,500 for Graneta Jumpstart J37, a double black, polled son of Mandayen Easy Rider with a low birth weight figure and explosive growth data.
