Limousin steers topped the market in each weight range at the Sydney Royal Show steer auction.

A Limousin from Jeremy and Philippa Walsh, Ruby Park Limousins, Dubbo, and Don and Sarah Riley, Oakvale Limousins, Tamworth, was the overall top priced steer selling for 1625c/kg or$6,289 to Tender Value Meats at Hornsby.

Tender Value Meats owner Adam Stratton has made it a tradition to buy the grand champion steer for his Hornsby butcher shop as a way of demonstrating to his customers that he only buys the best beef.

Mr Stratton also paid 1090c/kg or $4,498 for the Middleweight Champion exhibited by St John’s College, Dubbo, and the Kirk Family, Wilworril Limousins, Peak Hill, and 730c/kg or $2,730 for the Champion Lightweight School steer from Coonamble High School.

Wingham Beef Exports took the lion’s share of the heavyweight steers including the Champion Heavy Weight sold by The Scots School, Bathurst, and Austin Steer, Eltham Limousins, Nevertire, for 800c/kg or $4,125.

The second top priced light weight steer, a Limousin from St John’s College, Dubbo, and the Kirk family, Wilworril Limousins, Peak Hill, was bought by Woolworths for 800c/kg or $3,192.

Kingsley Steakhouse, Sydney, bid selectively throughout the sale and paid to 1075c/kg or $5,052 for the Champion School Steer sold by The Kings School, Parramatta, and Ben and Holly Goodman, Tamworth.

A Limousin steer from Scott Myers and Samantha Beresford sold for 500c/kg or $2,200 to Woolworths.
