Bulls sold to a top of $9,000 and cows to a top of $12,500 at the Southern Limousin Breeders Production Sale at Moss Vale on Saturday 5th September.
The sale, hosted by Landmark Moss Vale, sold 14 bulls, seven cows, two cows with calves and 23 heifers.
Landmark livestock agent Daniel Croker, Goulburn, said the sale was strong, especially for the female portion.
“The sale was quite good and the females were exceptionally strong,” Mr Croker said.
“It was the highest Limousin average for bulls and the commercial cattle were good as well.”
All up, 14 bulls sold to a top of $9,000, averaging $4,946; seven cows sold to a top of $12,500, averaging $5,321; 23 heifers sold to a top of $6,000, averaging $3,010 and two cows with calves sold to a top of $8,000, averaging $5,500.
Michael and Mary Parsons, Kia Ora Limousins, Roslyn, sold the top priced bull for $9,000 to Tim Reid, Melon Pastoral Company, Roslyn, and top priced cow for $12,500 to Myers Limousins, Moss Vale, and Summit Livestock, Uranquinty.
The two year old black bull, Kia Ora Jethro (PF) (AC) was the heaviest bull offered at 1029 kilograms and had a scrotal circumference of 40 centimetres. The bull was by Premier Guardian B90 and from Donna Valley Poll Chilli Gold. Mr Reid said he bought the bull because of its “soundness of foot”.
“I could use a bull with good feet, length and weight and he is the best black Limousin bull I’ve seen in a long time,” Mr Reid said.
“He’s going to suit the steer market, being used over cows – he’s just an all round good package.”
The second top price of $6,000 was reach three times and all three bulls were offered by Taurus Limousin stud, Calderwood.
These included the 751kg Taurus Ionesco, by Ionesco and from Ramornie Krystal R73, with a 39.5cm scrotal circumference.
